March 28, 2024 Capital A List - Celebrity club news

Scales Bar Review: A New Cocktail Experience Below Marylebone's Streets

In Marylebone and Mayfair, Scales Bar is a new cocktail experience that lures those inclined to meticulously crafted drinks and intimate conversations.

Officially opened in December 2023, this venture represents the culmination of five years of dedication and passion by mixologists Din Jusufi and Engji Shala. Their previous tenure at the acclaimed Farzi London provided a strong foundation for their latest endeavor.

Scales is beneath Drink with Sasha, behind a discreetly marked door in a wine shop. The venue offers an escape to a world where the art and science of cocktail-making converge. The dimly lit, chic interior sets the stage for an experience that’s as much about the ambiance as the beverages.

The Drinks Menu

The focus here is on balance and chemistry. It is a theme that extends from the bar’s name to its approach to drink preparation. Utilizing an array of lab equipment, including a centrifuge for extracting and infusing flavors, Scales pushes the boundaries of traditional cocktail crafting. This innovative process produces clear, elegantly presented drinks.

The menu highlights include the Shiso Apple. It is a mix of Desi Daru vodka, shiso leaf, green apple and bergamot. The earthy Fig combines Camus cognac with figs, citrus, pandan, and almond. For those participating in Dry January or simply looking for non-alcoholic options, Scales has introduced a special menu featuring Everleaf Drinks’ alcohol-free spirits, such as the refreshing Forest, a blend of Everleaf Forest, raspberry, and grapefruit soda.

Scales Bar is where every cocktail tells a story of innovation, precision, and balance. Engji Shala, co-founder, encapsulates Scales’ ethos as aiming to bridge the gap between consumers and the modern-day crafts of cocktails. It ensures that each visit is an educational journey as much as a gastronomic one.

Open Tuesday through Saturday evenings, Scales is an inviting proposition for those looking to explore the evolving landscape of cocktails. It is where tradition meets modernity in the heart of London.

Sotto Soho Bar Review: New Menu Reinventing Italian Classics

March 26, 2024 Capital A List - Celebrity club news

Sotto Soho Bar Review

Beneath the chic Bocconcino Soho, Sotto Soho bar has quickly established itself as a gem in London’s cocktail scene. This subterranean speakeasy is not just a bar. It’s a journey to the heart of Italy, blending the traditional with the contemporary to celebrate Italian cocktail culture. With the introduction of a new Italian-inspired cocktail list, created in collaboration with the acclaimed mixologist Rich Woods, aka the Cocktail Guy, Sotto invites patrons on an immersive journey through the flavors of Italy, redefining ‘La Dolce Vita’ with every sip.

The New Cocktail Menu

Launching on Friday, 12th April, the new cocktail menu reflects Woods’ innovative approach, reinventing classic cocktails with a modern Italian twist. The Med Martini, for example, is a bold fusion of lemon gin, Lillet Blanc, bergamot, and Amalfi lemon, topped off with a unique Mediterranean Sea spray foam, encapsulating the freshness of the Italian coast. Meanwhile, the Blood Orange & Tarragon Spritz marries the citrusy sweetness of blood orange with the herbal notes of tarragon, grapefruit bitters, and prosecco for a refreshing concoction that speaks to the spirit of southern Italy.

For those looking to complement their dessert with a cocktail, the menu offers decadent creations like the Tiramisu Martini. This take on the Espresso Martini blends vodka, dark chocolate, and vanilla. It is served through a tiramisu frappe for dessert in a glass. The Biscotti Sour and Blackcurrant Negroni further showcase Woods’ talent for combining traditional Italian flavors with contemporary flair.

Rich Woods expressed his excitement about the collaborative menu. He aims to encapsulate the essence of Italy all within a glass. They have resident DJs and a menu of authentic Italian small plates complementing the drink offerings. As Sotto prepares to unveil its new cocktail list — With its doors open on Friday and Saturday evenings —  it reinforces its position as a must-visit destination for those seeking to experience the sophisticated charm and inventive spirit of Italian cocktail culture in London.
