Hide Restaurant London Review

Hide restaurant in London feels like entering a world of luxury and quiet precision. Situated at 85 Piccadilly, the restaurant spans three stories. The chef-director, Josh Angus, leads a kitchen that prioritises seasonality, finesse, and understated elegance. From the moment you sit down, the environment speaks of refined intentions and meticulous execution.

The restaurant opened in April 2018. Within five months, it was awarded a Michelin star, a rare feat in London’s competitive dining scene. Hide is backed by the renowned wine boutique Hedonism Wines, making its wine list one of the most ambitious in the city. Their vision: combine world-class produce with intelligent cooking in a setting that feels elevated but approachable.

The interior here is layered and elegant. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper level frame views across Green Park and Piccadilly. Sit upstairs (‘Above’) where the tasting menu unfolds. Below (‘Ground’) hosts the à la carte menu, and a bar (‘Below’) occupies the basement level. The design is deliberate: a sweeping oak staircase, neutral woods, soft lighting, and comfortable spacing that allow the food to quietly shine. Service feels polished and thoughtful. The staff guides the meal with calm confidence, without being overbearing.

Hide Restaurant London Menu

The menu at Hide changes with the seasons.  Begin with their signature dishes: the “Nest Egg,” a smoked egg with mushrooms and butter, comes served in an actual eggshell, rich and comforting. Next, taste the delicate seafood: for instance, steamed turbot in an intensely flavoured fish-bone broth that showcases depth. The 28-day-aged beef is a highlight, with carefully balanced accompaniments. The meat is tender, flavourful, and beautifully presented.

Vegetable-forward dishes also stand out: crisp morels over flatbread with lardo, or beetroot with pistachio and horseradish cream — each plate carrying texture and subtle complexity. Dessert finishes the meal on a refined note: a barley soft-serve or an acorn-flour cake imbued with autumnal richness. And the wine list? Astonishing. Thanks to Hedonism Wines, diners can order from over 6,000 bottles with a “retail plus £30” corkage for many choices. A wine lover’s dream.

What makes Hide worth the booking is its blend of elevated dining and hospitality that doesn’t feel pretentious. The cooking is precise and warm. The setting is luxurious and comfortable. The wine list elevates the experience. If you’re seeking a London destination that has all the trappings of fine dining — craftsmanship, service, a strong wine programme — but still feels genuine, Hide delivers.
