Berenjak Mayfair Restaurant London Review: Authentic Persian Cuisine in the Heart of London

Berenjak, renowned for bringing the rich flavours of Persian cuisine to the city, has expanded its presence with a new location: the Berenjak Mayfair restaurant in London. Following the success of its Soho and Borough Market establishments, this new location offers an elevated dining experience that pays homage to the eateries of Tehran while incorporating contemporary elegance.

Founded by chef Kian Samyani, Berenjak draws inspiration from the traditional hole-in-the-wall eateries of Tehran, known as “kebabi.” The restaurant’s name, “Berenjak,” refers to the brightly coloured toasted rice snacks enjoyed at Iranian funfairs. The Mayfair branch, located at 80 Duke Street, marks the third London venue for Berenjak.

Situated on the corner of Duke Street and Brown Hart Gardens, Berenjak Mayfair blends rustic charm with modern sophistication. The interior design draws inspiration from Persian aesthetics, featuring ornate tilework, soft candlelit corners, and plush banquettes that create an intimate ambience. An open grill and tandoor oven serve as focal points, filling the space with the enticing aromas of charred meats and freshly baked bread.

A defining feature of Berenjak Mayfair is its commitment to recreating the authentic Persian dining experience. The restaurant emphasizes communal dining, encouraging guests to share various dishes that showcase the depth and diversity of Persian cuisine. The open kitchen allows diners to observe the preparation of dishes, adding an interactive element to the dining experience.

Berenjak Mayfair successfully transports diners to the heart of Tehran through its authentic cuisine, warm hospitality, and thoughtfully designed space.

Berenjak Mayfair Restaurant London Menu

The menu at Berenjak Mayfair celebrates the rich culinary traditions of Iran, crafted using the finest British ingredients. It begins with an enticing selection of mazeh (small sharing plates), including Mast o Khiar, a refreshing yoghurt dip mixed with cucumber and mint, and Kashk e Bademjan, a smoky aubergine puree blended with whey and crispy onions. Freshly baked Taftoon Bread, pulled straight from the tandoor, is ideal for dipping and scooping.

For mains, the selection of kababs is a highlight, cooked over a live charcoal grill to achieve deep, smoky flavours. The Koobideh Kabab, made from spiced British lamb, is hand-minced to ensure tenderness. At the same time, the Jujeh Kabab, featuring free-range chicken marinated in saffron, lemon, and yoghurt, is succulent and fragrant. For a more traditional Persian dish, the Sabzi Polo ba Mahi—herb-infused rice served with perfectly grilled fish—offers a comforting yet refined taste of home cooking.

Desserts at Berenjak Mayfair are just as indulgent, with the Baklava Ice Cream Sandwich being a standout choice. This creation pairs crispy, honey-soaked pastry layers with creamy Persian ice cream. The beverage menu is equally well-curated, featuring biodynamic wines, Persian-inspired cocktails infused with exotic ingredients like saffron and pomegranate, and aromatic Persian teas served with delicate sweets.
