In a bold move that marks the end of an era, famous chef Jason Atherton has announced the transformation of his Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social into a new venture: Mary’s Grill & Burger Bar in London. The new restaurant will open in late 2024, introducing a more casual and accessible dining concept to Mayfair. It signals a significant shift in Atherton’s culinary journey.
Pollen Street Social has been a staple of London’s fine dining scene since its opening in 2011. Now, it will close its doors in November 2024. The decision to rebrand and launch Mary’s Grill reflects Atherton’s desire to adapt to changing dining trends. He aims to offer a concept that appeals to a broader audience. Known for his ability to innovate while staying true to culinary excellence, Atherton is excited to bring a fresh, dynamic experience to Mayfair.
The interior of Mary’s Grill will depart from the refined elegance of Pollen Street Social. Instead, it will embrace a more laid-back and contemporary design. The space will be reimagined with an open kitchen, vibrant decor, and a relaxed atmosphere. The decor invites diners to enjoy a meal without the formality of fine dining. The restaurant aims to create a welcoming environment where guests can savour high-quality food casually.
While Mary’s Grill represents a new chapter for Jason Atherton, it also pays homage to the legacy of Pollen Street Social. The name “Mary’s” is a tribute to Atherton’s grandmother, whose cooking inspired his passion for food. Combining the nostalgia of home-cooked meals with the creativity and expertise that have defined his career, Atherton is set to deliver a dining experience that honours the past while embracing the future.
