Mantham, a colouful Indian restaurant located on Maddox Street in central London, walk in and be inspired by bold colouful plates on the menu and not forgetting the peacock-coloured banquette. This exclusive restaurant is the second collaboration between Michelin starred chef Rohit Ghai and entrepreneur Abhi Sangwan, and bright, bold dishes fill the menu.
You can find Manthan in a long, narrow ground floor of a typical Mayfair townhouse, and has a luxurious interior décor that is so rich in shades of gold and teal. The bathroom is embraced with gold taps that might leave you in doubt that you’re dining in one of London’s most exclusive areas. Expect to be served by kind and charming staff that just know how to make everyone feel truly welcomed.
The menu, which is in fact mostly vegetarian, will leave you wanting to order everything, was designed to include traditional flavours with a contemporary twist. Expect starters that include crisp Ghati masala, Ram Laddoo, Pyaaz Kachori, Tawe Ki Arbi and an unsual Jackfruit Tacos.
After starters, be indulged by the mains which consist of rich curries and smoky grills such as a classic Osso Bucca and Anda Curry, all of course with sides of rice, raita and roti breads to finish off your Indian experience. We ordered a variety of plates to share which is recommended – sarson chicken chop with mustard, kachumber salad and mint chutney, goat shami kebab in bone marrow sauce, ghati masala prawns with peanut, sesame seed and fresh coconut, mong daal fritters with mooli, yellow lentil and pomegranate, pyaz khachori with onions, mix bean sprouts and sweet & sour saunth chutney and a Burford Brown egg curry with paratha.
Desserts are always a must and we recommend the Narangi Chocolate which can be described as chocolate, with orange and berries. Just perfect to end off a lovely Indian meal.
Surprisingly, Mantham has got some impressive cocktails, the restaurant has teamed up with co-founder and front of house Abhi Sangwan (Trishna and Bombay Bustle). The cocktails all have a story and have been inspired by the seven oceans of the world. The cocktail menu also has a range of non-alcoholic cocktails.
