Kanishka restaurant in London, on Maddox Street in Mayfair, is where Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar takes Indian fine dining into bold new territory. While most of London’s top-tier Indian restaurants lean toward Mughlai opulence or Punjabi spice, Kanishka explores the lesser-known flavours of Northeast India—drawing on regional influences from Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. It’s Indian cuisine reimagined through a sleek, contemporary lens, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.
The space strikes that perfect balance between understated luxury and warmth. Walking in, you find a calm palette of oceanic blues and golden accents. The interiors are plush yet minimal—velvet chairs, elegant lighting, and modern Indian art on the walls. SIT by the window looking out to Maddox Street, or tuck into one of the more intimate corners… the atmosphere is always polished and relaxed.
Kanishka doesn’t just serve excellent Indian food—it redefines what Indian fine dining can be. It’s a confident, creative, and refined restaurant that surprises in all the right ways.
Kanishka Restaurant London Menu
Now, to the menu—which is where Kanishka truly sings. Chef Kochhar’s culinary philosophy is to spotlight regional ingredients and techniques often overlooked in Indian restaurants. Start with the Naga-style pork belly, served with sweet potato and smoked chilli chutney. It is rich, perfectly tender, and full of layered heat. The Sikkim-style chicken momos—steamed dumplings with spiced tomato and sesame—are delicate and deeply flavourful, celebrating the region’s Tibetan influence.
The standout, though, is the Tandoori Stone Bass, served with mint tapioca and green mango kachumber. It is bright, fragrant, and perfectly charred, showcasing Kochhar’s mastery over both spice and balance. For mains, the Lamb Rogan Josh Shepherd’s Pie is an ingenious fusion, combining the comforting texture of mashed potato with a robust Kashmiri-style lamb curry. It is clever, nostalgic, and seriously satisfying.
Dessert deserves its own applause: the Chocolate Rasmalai, with saffron milk and pistachio, is a modern, indulgent twist on the classic, served with a theatrical flourish.

You’d expect a Michelin-starred chef with his CV to be all puffed up with self-importance, but not Sameer. He’s not the type to humble brag with his hand earnestly resting on his chest, telling you ‘how grateful and humbled’ he is in that way that makes you cringe. No, […]

The rub is that you must be a member to even order a starter, and it catered for the Olympics, US presidents and some of the most powerful people […]
