Somerset House, a famous cultural hub in London, enhances its dining offerings with the launch of Café Petiole restaurant in London. This is a new vegan-friendly venue by Chef Rishim Sachdeva, opening in May 2024. Café Petiole promises a plant-first menu inspired by Sachdeva’s Tendril restaurant in Mayfair, known for its creative and mostly vegan dishes. This new venue aims to provide a casual yet refined dining experience. It will be suitable for both quick lunches and relaxed meals in the iconic surroundings of Somerset House.
Café Petiole’s design aims to evoke the feel of an artist’s café. It has aesthetic touches like yellow and magnolia walls, antique tables, bentwood chairs, and hand-painted murals. These ornaments help create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Positioned off the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, Café Petiole will join other esteemed eateries at Somerset House. It will offer visitors and art enthusiasts a fresh and contemporary dining option.
Café Petiole London Cuisine
The cuisine at Café Petiole explores vegan and plant-based dishes curated with an emphasis on flavour, creativity, and sustainability. Chef Rishim Sachdeva, known for his innovative approach at his other restaurant, Tendril, brings a similar ethos to Café Petiole, crafting a menu that offers nourishment and culinary excitement.
The morning menu includes toasted banana bread with agave—a sweet and comforting start to the day—and baked courgette feta and honey swirls, which offer a savoury balance. The café offers blue corn tostadas topped with smoked artichoke and lime puree for lunch and dinner, providing a fresh, tangy experience. At the same time, the mushroom focaccia with daikon pickle adds a crunchy, umami-rich contrast.
One of the menu’s standout features is Sachdeva’s vegan twist on classic tiramisu, aptly named Tendril Tiramisu. This dessert encapsulates the café’s plant-based versions of beloved dishes, ensuring that even vegan diners can enjoy a creamy treat. Café Petiole offers a variety of vegan drinks to complement the food. Guests can choose from an array of kombuchas and low-intervention European wines. Recognizing the busy lives of its patrons, Café Petiole also caters to the take-out crowd, providing quick, healthful options that do not compromise on taste or quality.
This menu reflects Sachdeva’s culinary expertise and aligns with Café Petiole’s goal to create a welcoming space. The offerings are designed to appeal to a broad audience, including those dedicated to a vegan lifestyle and others simply looking to enjoy a delicious, health-conscious meal in a beautiful environment.
