Solaya Restaurant London Review: A Mediterranean Rooftop Escape in Shoreditch

Atop the new Art’otel London Hoxton, Solaya restaurant in London is the kind of rooftop venue that seems to glow with golden-hour energy all day long. This is the second venture from hospitality duo Laura de Pulford and Alexandre Santamaria. They’re the same team behind the West End’s popular restaurant, Il Gattopardo. At Solaya, they’ve pivoted toward a relaxed yet refined Mediterranean concept, and it’s every bit as sun-soaked and elegant as you’d imagine.

The space is undeniably cinematic. With interiors inspired by vintage Côte d’Azur glamour, the terrace is decked out with cream parasols. Complementing that, find striped cushions and floor-to-ceiling views across London’s skyline. The design is curated to feel like a Riviera escape—airy, light-filled, and subtly opulent. Indoors, terracotta tones, golden detailing and rattan accents bring a retro-summer feel, while the open kitchen and wood-fired grill take centre stage.

Sip rosé on the terrace or settle in for a candlelit dinner with panoramic city views. Solaya offers one of the most transportive dining experiences in East London. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s a holiday above the city.

Solaya Restaurant London Menu

The menu leans heavily into Mediterranean flavours, marrying Southern European ingredients with refined techniques. From the small plates, the Smoked Tarama Salata (£11), served with lemon puffed crackers, and the Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio (£16), finished with a red onion, chilli, and mango vinaigrette, are both light and flavourful starters. We also love the Steak Tartare (£16), elevated with bois boudrin and a confit egg yolk on sourdough.

Larger dishes continue the celebration of coastal cuisine. The Bouillabaisse (£64/97), a Provençal classic reimagined with langoustine bisque, red snapper, king prawns, mussels, and saffron potatoes, is a true showstopper—especially with the option to add half a lobster. The Grilled Native Lobster (from £33) and BBQ Sea Trout (£26) are summer on a plate, while meat lovers can opt for the perfectly cooked Grilled Sirloin or Côte de Boeuf for two (£96), served with silky demi-glace.

Sides are far from an afterthought—BBQ Stem Broccoli with vinaigrette and chilli and Pomme Frites with rosemary salt complete the Riviera bistro feel. Dessert isn’t on the menu yet, but the cocktail list more than compensates. Expect elegant spritzes, classic negronis, and wine sourced from vineyards across Southern Europe.
