Cornus Restaurant in London Review: Belgravia’s New Rooftop Dining Destination

A new rooftop dining sensation will arrive with Cornus restaurant in London this August. The venue is the brainchild of David O’Connor and Joe Mercer Nairne, the team behind the Chelsea restaurant Medlar, and will feature the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Gary Foulkes.

Cornus will be located on the rooftop of the repurposed Ice Factory, a five-floor warehouse originally built in 1830. The interior design, crafted by Day Studio, draws inspiration from the dogwood shrub, creating a warm and elegant ambience with tactile fabrics, warm metallic details, and responsive lighting systems that interact with the time of day. The restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the London skyline, making it a perfect spot for day and night dining​.

Cornus strongly emphasises its wine program, curated by former Head Sommelier Melania Battiston and World Young Sommelier of the Year Lukasz Gorski. The wine list will feature unique bottles with compelling stories, carefully selected to complement the menu. David O’Connor, one of the founders, emphasized the importance of exceptional service in creating an unforgettable dining experience, aiming to build lasting relationships with guests and establishing Cornus as a must-visit destination in Belgravia​.

Cornus opened its doors on August 6, 2024, following a soft launch period. The 70-cover restaurant is set to become a cornerstone of the Eccleston Yards area, joining other notable establishments and contributing to the dining and social scene.

Cornus aims to offer a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience, with a menu centred around British and European seasonal produce. Chef Gary Foulkes, formerly of the Michelin-starred Angler, will lead the kitchen, bringing his precise cooking style to the table. The menu is expected to change regularly, highlighting the freshest ingredients and innovative dishes.

First, visitors can savour sea bass tartare and spaghetti with native lobster and Amalfi lemon. Main dishes include Lake District lamb with romero pepper piperade, roast chicken with Scottish langoustines, and a sharing côte de boeuf from The Butcher’s Block in Banstead.

For dessert, head pastry chef Kelly Cullen curated elevated comfort classics, such as creamed rice pudding with caramelized fruits​.
