Dover Street Counter Restaurant London Review: Mayfair’s Sexy Counter Dining with a New-York Soul

Dover Street Counter restaurant in London feels like a stylish late-night haunt that never quite sleeps. The restaurant opened in late 2025 as the playful sibling to The Dover just down the street. It was conceived by restaurateur Martin Kuczmarski as a more rebellious spin on classic counter-style dining, drawing inspiration from late 1950s Los Angeles and New York diner culture. The goal was simple: bring feel-good food, confident drinks, and a social soundtrack into one bold space.

Located on Dover Street, the venue immediately stands out for its open kitchen and gleaming stainless-steel bar. The design is deliberately laid-back yet seductive. Think glossy black lacquer parquet floors, walnut panelling, and a soundtrack that nods to ’90s R&B and soul. The vibe is energetic without being chaotic, sophisticated, and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where the night seems to stretch on, and you happily let it.

Dover Street Counter blends casual energy with refined execution. The counter seating draws you into the rhythm of the kitchen, where chefs and bartenders work in sync. Laughs ripple through the room as old-school martinis are poured and plates glide out to eager diners. There’s a joyful confidence in every detail, from the music to the lighting to the warm buzz of conversation.

Dover Street Counter Restaurant London Menu

The menu here is unapologetically fun, leaning heavily into revamped American classics with a sexy, sophisticated edge. It’s “feel-good” food, elevated.

Start with the disco fries, a loaded plate of crispy spuds topped with pickled chilli, ginger, and creamy mayo, just as indulgent as it sounds. The walnut wedge salad offers crunch and herbaceous brightness, while the tuna tartare coupe – served with seaweed-flecked rice crackers – keeps things sharp and refreshing.

Sandwiches here deserve serious attention. The tuna melt delivers creamy, crisp layers with a satisfying crunch. But it’s the cheeseburger that steals the show: a towering, juicy patty on a glossy brioche bun, perfectly messy and decadent. For something heartier, the grilled half-lobster adds smoky sweetness that pairs beautifully with a glass of bubbles.

Dessert doesn’t disappoint either. The New York cheesecake is rich, dense and crowned with spiced rum caramel, a finish that lingers long after your last sip.

In a city filled with polished neighbourhood diners and late-night bars, Dover Street Counter feels like an authentic fusion of both. It’s a place where you can start with cocktails and fried delights, stay for burgers and lobster, and end the night reminiscing over cheesecake and laughter. It’s bold, magnetic, and unapologetically fun. It is Mayfair dining with a pulse.
