Artesian Bar is a well known prestigious bar which stands just behind Cavendish Square in Marylebone and conveniently just a short walk down from Oxford Street. Being the main bar of the famous Langham Hotel propels it high-up on the list of bars to visit in the capital, and even more so, as it is renowned for its cocktails, which has been proven after it won the ‘World’s Best Bar’ for four consecutive years.
Alongside this they have won many awards and said to be ‘more than worthy of a five-star review’ from Tatler Magazine. The setting combines elements of art nouveau and art deco decor whilst also bringing in designs from nature such like the large hanging birdcage lights and butterfly wall paper under the bar.
The tall ceilings and high wide windows flood the room with natural light during the day whilst the rich lighting in the evening creates a slick setting, giving it a warm, sophisticated ambience for midday or evening drinks. Uniting this with the friendly and welcoming staff in colourful uniform make it a smart place for all occasions, making you feel at ease and never out of place.
Fairly recently in late 2017 new bartender Remy Savage and bar manager, Anne Sebastian arrived in from Paris’s respected Little Red Door and the Savoy’s Beaufort Bar to keep its top reputation. The menu has a wide range of cocktails from the classics to new innovative recipes, each one having its own unique story. Their attention to detail is impeccable; making simple changes in the ingredients and the making process has made the old classics more imaginative, creating a subtle, but noticeable change in the flavour. For example one of their favourites, the espresso martini, is made by combining three different coffee beans all at different roasting ages.
The high standards and thoroughness can be seen in even their ice. Using the very latest technology they are able to produce ice of high density making it ‘purer’ and ‘colder’ therefore lasting longer, keeping your ‘cocktails cooler’ and flavoursome for longer.
Impressive and unique presentation of the cocktails also adds to the bars vibrancy and definitely makes it worth the visit. However, if you would prefer to have your usual drink and stick to what you know cocktails are not the only thing on the menu; there is a large variety, including an extensive champagne list keeping everyone satisfied.
And, if by chance rum is one of your favourites, then you are in for a treat as it has the title of homing the cities ‘largest collection’ of rums. Besides the drinks the Tapas style gourmet menu is unique and accommodates everyone whether you want a quick bite or a large selection to enjoy for an evening meal. The menu is designed to nicely compliment the cocktails making everything work smoothly on the palette.
So if you’re looking for a place just outside of Soho with a buzz and easy going atmosphere, a quick drink after a day of shopping or just a hotel with a great view then this is the perfect place for you!
